Dr. Madigan to Discuss Teacher Quality, Recruitment and Retention
San Francisco, CA (July 22, 2003) — Addressing the need to place highly qualified teachers in every classroom in order to achieve student academic success, the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence announced that organization president, Dr. Kathleen Madigan, will participate in a panel discussion at the National Conference of State Legislatures Annual Conference. Dr. Madigan will discuss the definition of a “highly qualified" teacher and how new innovations in teacher preparation help to recruit and retain qualified individuals into the teaching profession.
WASHINGTON, DC (March 2, 2004)— Governor Kempthorne and Deputy U.S. Secretary of Education Hickok today praised the Idaho State Board of Education in announcing the launch of a new pathway to teacher certification for individuals with the passion and desire to teach. Offered through the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE), Passport to TeachingSM certification provides a time-efficient and cost-effective way for talented individuals with a bachelor’s degree or higher to enter the teaching field. This approach will help Idaho meet the requirements set forth by the federal No Child Left Behind Act to place a “highly qualified" teacher in every classroom by the 2005-06 school year.

The four-module program focuses on developing and strengthening Professional Teaching Knowledge to better prepare candidates seeking American Board certification.
WASHINGTON, DC (June 16, 2004) — The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (American Board) today announced that the Florida State Board of Education voted on Tuesday to accept the Passport to TeachingSM as a new route to full certification for the state’s public school teachers. Florida becomes the third state along with Pennsylvania and Idaho to formally recognize the American Board and embrace new approaches in helping to meet the requirements under the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 to place a “highly qualified" teacher in every classroom by the 2005-06 school year.
