The Green to Teach pathway is a state-approved, post-baccalaureate, alternative route to Alaska teacher certification. It is designed to support active-duty military members, veterans, and military spouses who hold a bachelor’s degree and are interested in becoming classroom teachers in Alaska public schools. Currently, Anchorage School District (ASD) is the only approved school district for the Green to Teach program.
During the Green to Teach pathway, candidates complete required coursework through American Board, participate in structured on-the-job learning within an approved Alaska public school district, and meet all State of Alaska requirements to be eligible for teacher certification.
American Board offers a special reduced rate of $1,000 for active-duty military members, veterans, and military spouses. For more information and to secure this discounted rate, please email info@americanboard.org.
Candidates can choose any of Alaska’s licensure areas for certification, including:
Get the “green light” from the Alaska DEED to start your journey.
Secure your position within the Anchorage School District (ASD).
Complete American Board’s PTK exam and Alaska’s subject area exam for your chosen content area.
Officially become a licensed educator in Alaska.
