How to Become a Teacher in Wisconsin

To become a teacher in Wisconsin with American Board’s teacher certification program, candidates will need to complete the following steps:

  1. Pass American Board’s required pedagogy exam and subject area exam.
  2. Submit your transcript(s) to American Board and pass a federal background check.
  3. Receive a teaching certificate and Institutional Recommendation from American Board.
  4. Apply to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for a teaching license.
  5. Begin teaching in a Wisconsin school.

 

edTPA is Not Required

American Board is the only state-approved alternative teacher certification program that does not require the edTPA (Educational Teacher Preparation Assessment) to be completed. This saves you time and money, as you move into a new career in education.
