WASHINGTON, DC (June 29, 2004) — In its continuing effort to increase the supply of qualified teachers in U.S. schools, the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (American Board) today announced that 11 candidates have earned the Passport to TeachingSM certification and are qualified to teach in Idaho, Florida and Pennsylvania’s classrooms. This alternative route to full certification helps meet the requirements set by the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 to place a “highly qualified" teacher in every classroom by the 2005-06 school year.
WASHINGTON, DC (June 16, 2004) — The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (American Board) today announced that the Florida State Board of Education voted on Tuesday to accept the Passport to TeachingSM as a new route to full certification for the state’s public school teachers. Florida becomes the third state along with Pennsylvania and Idaho to formally recognize the American Board and embrace new approaches in helping to meet the requirements under the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 to place a “highly qualified" teacher in every classroom by the 2005-06 school year.
TAMPA, FL (September 12, 2005) — The School District of Hillsborough County will hold Information Sessions on October 3 and 4 for professionals who want to change careers and become teachers.
The events, which will take place in Tampa and Seffner, Florida, are being organized in cooperation with the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (www.abcte.org). At the sessions, attendees can meet with Hillsborough officials and American Board certification counselors to discuss how they can earn their teacher certification.

Experienced executive chosen to lead American Board in new phase of program development and implementation
Washington, DC (December 1, 2005) — The Board of Directors of the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) has appointed David W. Saba as the organization’s new president, Board Chairman Tony Colón announced today. Saba currently serves as ABCTE’s Chief Operating Officer, and has worked as acting president since October 2005.
Previously, Saba served as the organization’s Vice President of Development and Evaluation. At ABCTE, Saba has overseen several major initiatives, including the launch of the organization’s first comprehensive candidate recruitment and marketing campaigns. The efforts generated a 300 percent increase in certification enrollments. In addition, Saba directed the development of an entire suite of teacher preparation materials, and he is spearheading the development and launch of the national Master Teacher program, which will recognize teachers of distinction and proven effectiveness.
