Arkansas Education Task Force Recommends American Board Certification Program to Strengthen Quality of Public Education

WASHINGTON, DC (December 19, 2005) — The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (www.abcte.org) today congratulated the Arkansas Koret Task Force on K-12 Education on the release of its new publication Reforming Education in Arkansas. Produced by an 11-member task force, the book is a result of a yearlong study of the Arkansas’s education system.

The publication includes recommendations on how to reform education in Arkansas based on the study requested by Governor Mike Huckabee.

The 165-page report highlights a variety of topics including a section on Teacher Preparation and Certification. It recommends that Arkansas decide upon a new model of teacher preparation and certification. The task force proposes that ABCTE is a good partner for alternative certification.

ABCTE Announces 1,000TH Candidate for Passport to Teaching Certification

Washington, DC (December 22, 2005) — American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) President David W. Saba today announced that the organization has enrolled its 1,000^th candidate for the Passport to Teaching certification program.

Study: Students Learn More from Teachers Who Can Pass ABCTE Certification Exams

WASHINGTON, DC (May 11, 2006) –Teachers who have the knowledge to pass national certification exams produce higher student learning gains than teachers who fail those same exams. These findings, from a study released today by the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE), demonstrate that ABCTE certification in elementary education can be a valid predictor of teacher performance in the classroom. 

The study, Student Achievement and Passport to Teaching Certification in Elementary Education, found that veteran teachers who passed the ABCTE Multiple Subject Exam (MSE) and Professional Teaching Knowledge (PTK) Exam produce higher student learning gains in math, science and social studies, and significantly higher overall student achievement, than teachers who failed one or both of those exams.
