ABCTE Receives 2006 NSPRA Golden Achievement Award

WASHINGTON DC (June 22, 2006)– The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence was recently named a  recipient of the 2006 National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) Golden Achievement Award.   

NSPRA, the leader in school communication, selected ABCTE as a winner for outstanding achievement in the execution of the New Year’s ‘Become a Teacher’ campaign.  The award recognizes ABCTE’s exemplary work in planning and executing the campaign, which successfully recruited career changers to pursue teaching in Florida, Idaho, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Utah.  

With a growing need to recruit and certify more teachers for America’s classrooms, ABCTE offered program savings throughout the month of January to encourage career changers to enroll in the alternative certification program, Passport to Teaching.  Individuals who enrolled in January could be eligible to teach by the beginning of the 2006 -2007 school year; the program takes approximately six to nine months to complete.

ABCTE hosted live recruitment events, online information sessions and offered savings on program preparation materials.  During January, 365 candidates enrolled in the program and more than 1,000 people inquired about the Passport to Teaching program.  

Passport to Teaching is an innovative certification process designed to attract talented professionals to change careers and become teachers. Candidates for Passport to Teaching certification must demonstrate mastery on examinations of subject area knowledge and professional teaching knowledge. Individuals can prepare for certification on their own time and at their own pace, using preparation materials available from a variety of sources. No additional college courses are required unless the certification candidate chooses to participate in them for preparation
