Memorial Day Weekend is here. The unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day is about so much more than pool parties and barbecues. With its arrival, we pause to recall its true meaning.

Memorial Day’s Meaning

It’s important to note that Memorial Day is recognized separately from Veterans Day. Why? It’s because Veterans Day honors those who have hung up their service uniforms, whereas Memorial Day honors those who never took them off.

This and every Memorial Day, let us all pause to remember that our great nation’s freedom isn’t free. We honor the brave men and women who have died while serving our Military.

How to Honor Memorial Day

At American Board, we honor those who have sacrificed for our freedom and safety. Our hearts are with the families of our Fallen Soldiers, and we are forever grateful for our Active Duty Military, our Veterans, and their families.

There are many ways to appropriately honor this occasion. For example, walking through a local Veteran’s cemetery allows you to pause and remember the people who have given all for our freedom. Another great way to honor those we’ve lost is to brush up your Memorial Day knowledge, or learn about Gold Star Families. These suggestions can be adapted to be kid friendly, which can help ensure we are bringing up another respectful generation.

Discounts for Veterans

Many companies and organizations will offer discounts for Veterans during Memorial Day weekend. Even better, many of these groups offer discounts for our Military throughout the year. Proudly, American Board subscribes to this practice.

At American Board, we know we can never repay those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. We do, however, offer our sincerest “thank you” to all who have served.

As we noted early this year, the federal Troops To Teachers program is expiring. Deeply believing in the spirit of this program, American Board will continue to honor our commitment to Veterans.
