Monroe County Schools Partners with ABCTE to Plan “Become a Teacher” Information Sessions

Key West, FL (January 9, 2006) —Monroe County Public Schools will hold information sessions on February 7, 8 & 9 for professionals who want to change careers and become teachers.

The events, which will take place in Tavernier, Marathon and Key West, Florida, are being organized in cooperation with the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (http://abcte.org). At the sessions, attendees can meet with Monroe officials and American Board certification counselors to discuss how they can earn their teacher certification.

Monroe County School District personnel will be available to discuss employment opportunities with attendees for both instructional and non-instructional positions.

The American Board offers the Passport to Teaching certification program that is recognized by the State of Florida as a route to full certification. Passport to Teaching allows highly knowledgeable professionals with bachelor’s degrees the opportunity to pursue certification through an individualized process; no additional college courses are required.
