Eckerd Youth Challenge Program Director Receives American Board Florida Teacher of the Year Award (8/15/13)

EDIE FLORES, who directs the Eckerd Youth Challenge Program and teaches classes at a juvenile justice facility in Brooksville, was named the American Board Florida Teacher of the Year. “In an effort to build positive supporting relationships with children, Edie plans lessons that engage the multiple learning styles of her students,” said nominator KEITH PHILLIPSON. “You will always find her students actively engaged in the lesson.” Over 80 percent of Flores’ students made average gains of 1.5 grade levels during their six to nine months in the program, far exceeding the state average.
