Sylvester Glover

Sylvester Glover is an AP Chemistry Teacher and Teacher Union President at Copper Canyon, a high poverty, Title I, high school in Phoenix, AZ. Mr. Glover’s path to teaching was quite unique, as he ascended from a tough urban environment as a child, worked his way through college, and ultimately, became the first ever, African American, to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Central Washington University. Wanting to give back to at-risk children and become a teacher, he went on to achieve an M.Ed. in Secondary Education from the Alternative Teacher Track at the University of Arizona.

JMr. Glover is also an active Teacher Union President and has experience in collective bargaining for teacher salaries and lobbying for education reform. And while he strongly believes that teachers should be treated fairly, Mr. Glover defies conventional union rhetoric, and insists that teachers must pull their own weight and put children before politics
