Covering football, basketball, and Olympic sports for a local newspaper was exciting, but something was missing. \u201cI loved elements of it, but I never felt fulfilled or content,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tw-target-text\">Ense\u00f1anza de Espa\u00f1ol<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While tutoring Spanish in college, Chase discovered a talent for teaching\u2014and a spark that never left. \u201cI was good at it,\u201d he explained. Originally, Chase planned to teach Spanish, but reading&nbsp;<em>Frankenstein<\/em>&nbsp;by Mary Shelley changed everything. \u201cI fell in love with the worlds and ideas that literature allows us to explore,\u201d he said. \u201cThat established my base that I\u2019ve built upon ever since.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While pursuing teaching, Chase met a colleague who introduced him to American Board. The online certification program has operated in Idaho for nearly 20 years, and was a fit for Chase who was looking for a fast but rigorous certification path. Utilizing his strong writing background and passion for literature, Chase earned his state-approved certification in under four months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Chase teaches junior English, Spanish 2, and journalism at Kimberly High School in South-Central Idaho. Twelve years into his career, he describes teaching as far more fulfilling than journalism. \u201cEven on the tough days, there is always a moment or a kid who will turn a light on for me as their own lightbulbs ignite.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">American Board Study Tips from an Idaho Teacher<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked what helped him most during his certification journey, Chase emphasized routine and preparation. \u201cI made flashcards and took them everywhere. I had a time set aside each day that was for ABCTE study and practice. Having that schedule was crucial.\u201d His advice for current candidates? Stick to a consistent study plan, use the provided practice tests, and trust the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Chase, teaching wasn\u2019t part of the original plan, but it turned out to be the perfect fit. He explains, \u201cI don\u2019t know how else to put this, but I feel fortunate to have the career that I \u201cfell\u201d into.
