Figures like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. can be incorporated in an age-appropriate way in any grade. But there is still so much to teach, share, and celebrate during Black History Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To expand your students\u2019 knowledge about other prominent Black figures, check out these resources and incorporate them in&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanboard.org\/\">your class<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blavity.com\/13-incredible-black-artists-past-and-present-everybody-should-know?category1=visual-arts&amp;subCat=black-history\" target=\"_blank\">Blavity<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, author Ida Harris\u2019s piece, \u201c13 Incredible Black Artists, Past and Present, Everybody Should Know,\u201d highlights influential artists. From Augusta Savage, the first Black artist to join the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, to present-day collagist, Deborah Roberts, the article covers different mediums and their cultural influences. Extra points for the students who can name the artists who painted the portraits of President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, housed at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/npg.si.edu\/exhibition\/barack-michelle\">Smithsonian\u2019s National Portrait Gallery<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/redtri.com\/black-history-month-resources-for-kids-of-all-ages\/\" target=\"_blank\">Red Tricycle<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here you\u2019ll find many useful resources for Black History Month. The author has gathered lesson plans; and classroom activities such as colorables, crosswords, and crafts. You&#8217;ll also find information about groundbreaking Black athletes, educators, and artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iheart.com\/content\/2018-01-30-influential-black-musicians\/\" target=\"_blank\">iHeart Radio<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInfluential Black Musicians,\u201d will capture students\u2019 attention as it flows from Dizzy Gillespie to Beyonc\u00e9. Music by Black artists encompasses a wide variety of genres, so there\u2019s a bit of something for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/journeysinfilm.org\/download\/hidden-figures-curriculum-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\">Journeys in Film<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, if you\u2019ve seen the 2016 movie\u00a0<em>Hidden Figures<\/em>, you\u2019re familiar with the inspiration behind this resource. The film centers around women known as \u201chuman computers,\u201d who worked at NASA to help launch the first astronauts into space.
