American Board Scholarship
For the second year running, American Board offered scholarships to five future teachers. Announced in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, the scholarships are awarded to five people pursuing alternative teacher certification. While American Board consistently works to keep our certification fees low, these scholarships allow future teachers to complete the program free of charge. One scholarship winner, Jillian Casey, shares a bit about her experience below.
2023 Scholarship Winner, 2024 Teacher
When applying for the American Board Scholarship, Jillian explained that she planned to teach elementary education in Wisconsin. She said “to me teaching is the most powerful and rewarding job I could do. I am excited to positively influence kids’ lives and help improve their future.”
Jillian was one of five American Board Scholarship winners announced during Teacher Appreciation Week in 2023. Now, just a year later and completely student debt free, she leads her own classroom.
Explaining how she came to teach, Jillian says, “I graduated with a degree in economics and soon realized my heart wasn’t in it. I decided to follow my passion and become a teacher. I started out by subbing and fell in love with every part of the job. It is such a hard but rewarding field.”
Why American Board Certification
A recent college graduate, Jillian had plenty of options for certification. She chose American Board. Flexibility was important to Jillian because she “had a lot of free time in the summer and used a lot of it to study and pass tests as quickly as possible.” Less than a year later, Jillian is a state-licensed teacher! She shares, “I teach first grade at a local elementary school in Wisconsin. I love my supportive coworkers and my amazing class.”
