American Board Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week
During Teacher Appreciation Week, American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence chose to partner with some community schools near our office to help schools make their teachers feel valued for their hard work.
Giving back to our community and our teachers is important not only because of our motto “your community, your teachers” but also to honor our status as a nonprofit organization. Through our partnerships with Title I schools, American Board was able to host events and provide supplies to help brighten teachers’ days with a doughnut or snack bag.
When we reached out to Dunbar Elementary, we connected with the principal who was trying to figure out what could be scheduled and paid for throughout Teacher Appreciation Week to make it special. We offered to take over for one day and provide local favorite Sublime Doughnuts for all of Dunbar’s teachers. After interacting with Dunbar’s teachers and staff, as well as taking a tour of the school, it became so evident how hard they work to make the school a community. We left with no doubt that every teacher goes the extra mile for their students every day, and that is something that brings tears to our eyes.
Meanwhile, the Parent Teacher Association at Briar Vista Elementary had developed the idea for a snack cart to visit each teacher in their classroom before the school day ended. American Board was able to provide drinks, snacks, and fruit to make each teacher’s snack bag something that would be full of their favorite treats. As we walked with PTA members throughout the school, we realized the connection they had with so many of the teachers. Seeing parents be involved in their children’s education and so connected with the teachers is exactly what makes a PTA successful in helping better the school and learning environment.
Teacher Appreciation Week is coming to an end, but American Board wants to make sure our teachers feel honored and valued every day. Let us know in the comments what are some ways your school, community, and American Board can make Teacher Appreciation Week feel like every week!
