American Board Welcomes Dave Saba as Vice President of Product Development and Evaluation

WASHINGTON, DC (March 25, 2005) — The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence has hired former Kaplan official Dave Saba as its Vice President of Product Development and Evaluation, American Board President Dr. Kathleen Madigan announced today.

In his new role, Saba will oversee the development of additional subject area examinations for Passport to TeachingSM, the respected and efficient teacher certification process designed to attract intelligent, knowledgeable career-changers to the teaching profession. Passport to TeachingSM is currently offered in the areas of English language arts, elementary education, mathematics, general science and biology. Saba will also oversee the continued development of Master TeacherSM, which will serve as the nation’s standards-based advanced teacher certification for experienced and effective educators.

“Dave brings a wealth of experience in management, assessment development, and preparation” Madigan said. “He will play a key role as we develop new and innovative teacher certification programs and continue enhancing education for all of America ‘s students. We enthusiastically welcome him to the American Board.”

Before joining the American Board, Saba was the mid-Atlantic regional director for Kaplan, Inc., a leading assessment preparation developer. Responsible for 14 test preparation centers, Saba developed new preparation resources and increased revenues by 75 percent in four years. He also developed high school examination preparation programs for three major metropolitan school districts.

With fifteen years of experience in project management and process development, Saba previously worked for Bausch and Lomb and Michelin. A graduate of the Naval Academy in Annapolis , Maryland , Saba served in the Navy as a helicopter pilot for five years and retired as a lieutenant commander. He holds a Masters degree in Engineering Management from the University of South Florida .
